“The Wife of Bath”
Friday, May 24, 2:00PM
Chaucer is one of the most accomplished and subtle satirists in literary history, and his character the Wife of Bath from the Canterbury Tales is one of the most outrageous and complex performances of his career. Join Dr. Corey Olsen, President of Signum University and The Tolkien Professor, for a close look at the hilarious and complicated tapestry of humor and morality that Chaucer weaves in The Wife of Bath’s Prologue and Tale.

Dr. Corey Olsen is the President of Signum University, where he also teaches classes on J.R.R. Tolkien, Chaucer, and modern fantasy literature. Through the Mythgard Institute, a research division of Signum, and in his persona as The Tolkien Professor, Dr. Olsen offers free weekly, interactive discussions on works of speculative fiction and the “new literature” of cinema and video game adaptations like Lord of the Rings Online. Dr. Olsen has a B.A in English and Astrophysics from Williams College and an M.A., M.Phil, and Ph.D in medieval literature from Columbia University. Before founding Signum University, Dr. Olsen taught at Temple University, Columbia University, and Washington College.
